Josh Dix drilled a game-winning, buzzer-beating 3-pointer en route to 22 points to lift Iowa to an 80-79 victory against visiting Northwestern on Tuesday in Iowa City, Iowa.

Iowa defeated Northwestern 80-79 in stunning fashion Tuesday night to open Big Ten regular-season play when junior guard Josh Dix drilled a fadeaway 3-pointer from the logo as time expired in regulation.

Josh Dix swished a game-winning 3-pointer just before the buzzer to give Iowa an 80-79 victory over Northwestern on Tuesday in a Big Ten Conference opener.

Iowa was looking to throw the ball in bounds for a last-second, literally, chance to score some points to either tie or win the game. The ball was thrown to Dix, who ran back past the right side of the Hawkeyes logo at center court, and drained a three-point shot from about 30 feet as time expired to give Iowa the 80–79 victory.

The Iowa men’s basketball team had their first Big Ten matchup against the Northwestern Wildcats on Tuesday night. The Hawkeyes led the Wildcats at halftime, but the Wildcats fought back, making the game a tight matchup up until the last second.

Sophomore guard Josh Dix sent Carver-Hawkeye Arena and social media into a frenzy with his buzzer-beating 3-pointer to down Northwestern, 80-79, in Iowa's Big Ten opener. Dix led the Hawkeyes with a game-high 22 points.
