Due to adverse weather conditions amid Cyclone Fengal, Chennai airport had suspended its operations till 4 am on Sunday.

Cyclone Fengal made landfall near Puducherry, bringing with it heavy rainfall and gusty winds, as torrential downpours flooded several parts of Chennai and left three people dead in the city.

To assist residents, 329 relief centers have been set up across Chennai, providing food, water, and shelter. Schools and colleges are closed in Chennai and Puducherry.

Cyclone Fengal caused record-breaking rains in Puducherry, which recorded 48.4 centimetres of rainfall in the 24 hours ending 8.30 am on Sunday. This marks the Union territory’s heaviest cumulative 24-hour rainfall in 30 years.

Cyclone Fengal is approaching Tamil Nadu’s coast, bringing heavy rainfall and rising tides. The IMD warns affected regions, with the cyclone expected to make landfall on November 30, packing winds of 70-80 km/h.

As of Saturday morning, Cyclone Fengal was located 110 km southeast of Chennai and 120 km east-northeast of Puducherry, moving westward at 13 kmph. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts landfall near Puducherry by night,

Waterlogging has been reported in several parts of Chennai as heavy rain lashed the region in the wake of Cyclone Fengal, which is approaching the Tamil Nadu and Puducherry coastline. According to ANI,

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin reviewed the precautionary measures, as the state prepares to brace Cyclone Fengal. Flight operations have been hit at Chennai Airport.
