A 37-year-old Chicago man has been charged with first-degree murder for the Friday morning shooting of an Oak Park police detective, according to local authorities.

An Oak Park police officer was fatally shot in the line of duty Friday morning by a suspect leaving a Chase Bank, authorities said.

Detective Allan Reddins died after the shooting attack, police said. A suspect was also shot and taken to a hospital after being seen leaving a bank on Lake Street with a gun, which prompted the initial response,

Charges have been filed against a Chicago man in the deadly shooting of an Oak Park detective, according to the village. Jerell Thomas, 37, was charged with first-degree murder in connection with the line-of-duty death of Oak Park Detective Allan Reddins.
