Stanford hired former QB Andrew Luck as the program’s general manager, according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel. The former No. 1 overall pick and Pro Bowler is returning to football after his early retirement.

Former Indianapolis Colts’ quarterback Andrew Luck will have a new job title, being named the general manager of the Stanford football program, according to ESPN. With the college football landscape ever evolving, the role Luck is going to fill at Stanford could become more prominent across the sport in the coming years.

Nearly 15 years ago, Andrew Luck left the Stanford Cardinal to live out his NFL dream. The former first-team All-American was viewed as the consensus top pick and a generational talent, leading to the Indianapolis Colts making him the first pick in the 2012 NFL Draft.

Luck also shared with ESPN that the idea for his new role came up "organically" after talking with Stanford president Jonathan Levin, and that Luck said he's ready to "lock arms" with Stanford head coach Troy Taylor in order to help the program reclaim a national status.
