A golfer was killed at a Palm Beach golf club in a sudden, violent attack by a man using golf clubs as weapons. The assailant, with a history of criminal charges, is now facing first-degree murder.

Palm Beach Gardens police said a Loxahatchee man, in a "random act of violence," "viciously attacked" another man with golf clubs before apparently drowning him in a pond at a golf course on Monday.

Investigators say the man in custody hit Brian Hiltebeitel with a golf club and then choked him as they fought in a pond at Sandhill Crane Golf Club.
